Pointz FAQs

  • Pointz is a safety-focused mapping app that helps people on bikes, scooters, and other micromobility vehicles find better ways around cities. Crowdsourcing is used to improve the map and reflect real-time conditions. Pointz pre-rates roads on a 1-5 bike friendliness scale based on complex sets of attributes from available datasets. Then riders can submit rating updates and add additional information to the map like bike lane obstructions, dangerous intersections, and more.

Routes are customizable: Depending on travel needs, riders can choose between a safer, balanced, or faster option. There is also the ability to toggle off hills. Turn-by-turn audio instructions and a smooth, easy-to-understand mapping interface further improve accessibility.

  • The Pointz app is available throughout the entire US. We plan to expand internationally in the upcoming year. If you’re interested in getting Pointz active in your country, please reach out and let us know at hi@bikepointz.com

  • Yes! Pointz is a navigation app meant to be used while riding. You can either put it in your vehicle’s cell phone holder or use the voice command function for turn-by-turn verbal directions.

  • The routes Pointz generates are specifically designed for micromobility users and rider safety. Our mapping algorithm utilizes networks of low-stress roads, taking into account various safety variables like traffic speed, road surface, and speed limit to plot the safest, fastest trip for our riders. Then, we use rider feedback to identify problem areas and continually improve our navigation.

  • Of course! Pointz works for all kinds of micromobility.

  • Not yet - it's in our backlog to set up the Strava API integration because you wouldn't have to have both apps running this way. In this case, the ride & metrics automatically get transferred to your Strava account. In the meantime, you can always use our app to find your route and then use Strava to track it.

  • We are building the app in React Native so transferring to a web app is definitely a possibility. It’s in our tech backlog right now but keep your eye out for a web version in the future.

  • Our co-founder, Maggie, took a cross country bike trip in the summer of 2017 and realized there wasn’t a navigation tool that consistently gave her safe, bike-friendly routes. When she got back, she wanted to create a tool that bikers and micromobility riders could use everyday to ensure safe, fun riding experiences.

  • By using our app, you are connected with a community of fellow riders who are excited about making bikes and other forms micromobility safer to use. Through our newsletters and social media, you can learn more about micromobility, meet fellow riders, and give us feedback on how to make Pointz better for everyone. And if we haven’t already convinced you, you can win free prizes through our Pointz community giveaways!
